PRIME Lecture From Palestine and Gaza to Fukushima: The Presence of the “Unseen” Reflections from the Field as a Journalist
Iran and Lebanon continue to face Israeli military attacks. Meanwhile, Japan remains under the Nuclear Emergency Declaration issued following the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant disaster.
Through news reports and social media images, we may believe that we understand the realities of war and nuclear disasters. Yet, when the spotlight of “news” shines brightly, the shadow of everyday life often becomes difficult to see.
In this lecture, photojournalist Naomi Toyoda will share his experiences documenting the ordinary lives that exist behind the headlines—the everyday realities obscured by the news coverage of war and nuclear accidents—and reflect on what he learned through his work in the field.
