PRIME Public Seminar　What Is the Western Sahara Issue? — Reflections on Freedom, Independence, and the Right to Self-Determination

Since the military invasion by Morocco in 1975, Western Sahara has remained under occupation. Often described as “Africa’s last colony,” what is the situation there today?

In this seminar, we welcome a political analyst and activist from Western Sahara to discuss the current realities under occupation, prospects for the future, and the meaning of freedom, independence, and the right to self-determination.

Speaker Profile：

Taleb Ali Salem

Sahrawi activist and political analyst specializing in Western Sahara, African, and Middle Eastern issues. Born in June 1992 in the Sahrawi refugee camps near Tindouf, Algeria, he has lived in Spain since 2003. Mr. Salem has delivered statements before international organizations, including the United Nations Special Committee on Decolonization, and has given lectures at national parliaments in the UK, Germany, and Switzerland, as well as at universities across Europe. Through his appearances and contributions to international media such as TVE and France 24, he actively raises awareness of the Western Sahara issue and human rights concerns.
